Distribution: Occurring in scattered locations west of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to Oregon, and reported from Idaho; also in Texas and along the East Coast of the U.S.

Habitat: Lawns, fields, pastures, forest edge, and other grassy areas at low elevations.

Flowers: May-July

Origin: Introduced from Europe

Growth Duration: Annual

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Description:
General:

Fleshy root parasites, the plants 1.5-5 dm. tall, strict and simple from a bulbous-thickened base, somewhat glandular-pubescent throughout.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, reduced to a few bracts.

Flowers:

Inflorescence spicate, not dense, the axis exposed in the lower part; flowers subtended by a bract but without bractlets; calyx split to the base, forming 2 lateral segments, these unequally forked; corolla white or yellowish, marked with violet, 10-15 mm. long; anthers glabrous.

Fruits:

Capsule 2-celled.
